How We Started
In 1988, Bonnie Lavorato began with three flavors of barbecue sauce and a dream of one-day producing sauce for other companies. Thus, the company was named Private Label Foods. The sauce was cooked in a 50-gallon steam jacketed kettle, hand capped and labeled in her home. As sales increased, so did the need for more space. In 1991, she re-located to a 3,200 square foot manufacturing facility. With Private Labeling becoming increasingly popular, the phones were ringing with customers who wanted their sauce bottled. The company's main growth is due to word-of-mouth from contented customers and distributors who enjoy working with Private Label Foods. In 1998, Private Label Foods of Rochester, Inc. relocated to the former Ragu facility in Rochester, New York. The manufacturing facility is 125,000 square feet with state-of-the-art equipment. The plant operation is licensed through New York State Department of Agriculture.
